Chipmaker Microsemi Corporation MSCC and Solectrix together announced the availability of Solectrix's SXoM-SF2 on Tuesday.The two companies collaborated to develop this new efficient digital signal processing (DSP) system-on-module (SOM). It is based on Microsemi's SmartFusion 2 system-on-chip (SoC) field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices.The director of marketing at Microsemi, Prem Arora said, "We are pleased the team at Solectrix has successfully leveraged the unique capabilities of our SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA devices, as its SXoM-SF2 complements Microsemi's efforts to build a robust portfolio of products and solutions for video and imaging applications.”SXoM-SF2 is compact, secure and consumes very low power in building high performance image processing applications. It can be used across a large number of applications including high-end machine vision, motion capturing and analysis, security and surveillance, medical and scientific imaging, airborne imaging and traffic monitoring.Solectrix Managing Director Stefan Schuetz said, "Our SmartFusion2-based SOM allows customers in the broad imaging market to easily build high performing, secure and low power DSP systems with the ability to integrate functions like imaging processing, video capture and high-speed PCIe streaming to the host."Microsemi’s semiconductors are used in communications, defense and security, data center, aerospace and industrial markets. Its large portfolio of products include FPGA, ASICs, SoCs, timing and synchronization devices and precise time solutions, power management products, RF solutions, discrete components, voice processing devices, enterprise storage and communication solutions, Ethernet solutions, Power-over-Ethernet ICs and midspans, security technologies and scalable anti-tamper products and custom design capabilities and services.Solectrix, on the other hand, offers hardware, software and FPGA services to medical, automotive applications, industrial products and camera electronics markets.Currently, Microsemi carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).
