Nike (NKE) Gains But Lags Market: What You Should Know

In the latest trading session, Nike (NKE) closed at $169.87, marking a +1.1% move from the previous day. The stock lagged the S&P 500's daily gain of 1.32%. At the same time, the Dow added 0.68%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq lost 0.15%.

Coming into today, shares of the athletic apparel maker had gained 0.44% in the past month. In that same time, the Consumer Discretionary sector lost 4.8%, while the S&P 500 gained 3.61%.

Wall Street will be looking for positivity from Nike as it approaches its next earnings report date. This is expected to be December 20, 2021. In that report, analysts expect Nike to post earnings of $0.62 per share. This would mark a year-over-year decline of 20.51%. Our most recent consensus estimate is calling for quarterly revenue of $11.23 billion, down 0.09% from the year-ago period.

NKE's full-year Zacks Consensus Estimates are calling for earnings of $3.56 per share and revenue of $47.11 billion. These results would represent year-over-year changes of 0% and +5.76%, respectively.

It is also important to note the recent changes to analyst estimates for Nike. These revisions help to show the ever-changing nature of near-term business trends. As a result, we can interpret positive estimate revisions as a good sign for the company's business outlook.
