Honda Motor Co., Ltd. HMC announced the recall of Fit and Vezel vehicles in Japan to fix two different issues. The first recall, covering 164,388 Fit vehicles, is due to a problem in the engine control system that has led to at least 6 fires. The recalled vehicles were produced between Aug 2013 and Feb 2016. The second recall is aimed at fixing a defect in the power steering, which has led to two crashes. It covers 118,715 Fit cars and Vezel vehicles. The recalled vehicles were produced between Aug 2013 and Aug 2015. No injury was reported due to either problem. This is the sixth round of recall for Fit vehicles in almost three years. Safety recalls have become a major issue for automakers in recent years. Recently, Volkswagen AG VLKAY announced the recall of around 800,000 Volkswagen and Porsche vehicles globally due to a defect in the foot pedals. The vehicles covered under this recall mainly include 409,477 Cayenne SUVs and 391,000 Touareg vehicles of model years 2011 through 2016. The automaker also announced the recall of around 5,600 of its 2015–2016 electric e-Golf cars in the U.S. due to a battery problem that can cause the cars to halt suddenly. Also, General Motors Company GM announced that it is recalling 6,300 police vehicles in the U.S. as their electric power-assisted steering runs the risk of failure. Honda currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. CTB, which sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), is a better-ranked automobile stock worth considering.
