The world's largest Internet retailer Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN has come up with the latest e-reader from the Kindle range – Kindle Oasis.FeaturesThe e-reader, with hardware improvements and new features, is 8th generation under the Kindle line. The e-reader comes with dual batteries that get automatically charged on being connected to the device, enhancing battery life. The charging cover is made of high-quality leather and is available in 3 colors – black, merlot and walnut. The e-reader will allow readers to adjust the brightness using the next generation Paperwhite display feature. The new Kindle is also the slimmest one, being 30% thinner and 20% lighter than the previous versions. To be precise, the device is 3.4 mm thin and weighs just around 4.6 ounces.Like the other devices in the range, Kindle Oasis flaunts features like the latest touch technology, enhanced page-turning experience and an X-Ray feature offering useful insight into books. It also integrates Goodreads into Kindle’s e-reading software, helping readers search and share books of their choice.Shipment & PricingPriced at $289.99, Kindle Oasis is available for preorders. Amazon expects to start the shipment of the device in the coming weeks. However, the new model is way more expensive than the previous ones. Currently, Amazon’s basic Kindle version is available for $80 while the Kindle Paperwhite with high resolution display and adjustable front light is priced at $120. Meanwhile, Kindle Voyage with page press buttons is priced slightly higher at $200.Kindle Oasis’ elevated price is definitely a drag as many low-priced options are available in the market. But yes, it would not necessarily attract dedicated e-readers who are keen on investing in a product with high screen quality, durability and battery life.To ConcludeAmazon has been constantly upgrading its e-book readers and the related app to benefit customers and maintain its position as the leading e-book seller. The company, with its Kindle upgrades, has strengthened its presence in the market and currently boasts more than 60% share.Though the e-book market has matured overtime, a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) revealed that the consumer e-books (excluding educational publications) market is poised to reach the £1 billion mark by 2018.However, if Amazon – a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company – fails to upgrade its Kindle devices or maintain competitive pricing, it could witness a major decline in overall e-reader sales.Stocks to ConsiderSome better-ranked stocks in the same space are Travelport Worldwide Limited TVPT, Stamps.com Inc.
